So just when I thought the crazy automotive shenanigans on Facebook classifieds had gone a little quiet, along pops up this thing. A 1975 VW powered Honda Goldwing Custom Trike!
Yes it’s been a while since we had any custom trike madness around these parts, well over a year since we explored this Honda and Pontiac Fierro amalgamation. But the love of all things Honda bike mashed with something else that started off with far more wheels is back and look what we have here!
Part Honda, part VW, part…skeleton?
Originally when it popped up courtesy of one of those hard working classified scourers over at I know what I have, I just saved it because hey, different looking custom trike, why not use that as an article on this blog at some stage? It’s only now when I found it again in my ever growing saved section did I notice the chrome skeleton just hanging out looking chuffed at itself. He/she/they look seriously happy for someone strapped to a VW/Honda hybrid popping along at hopefully a decent clip.
So what’s going on here then?
There was a bit going on in the Facebook ad for this custom trike, sadly a full stop was not one of them:
1975 honda goldwing vw trike with automatic transmission not a straight drive comes with a custom built trailer for you to haule it around if you want to take it on a long trip so you can come load it up hook up to you car or truck and take it home today one of a kind turns heads and wins shows everywhere I go it only has back drum brakes which needs to be changed so brakes aren’t good and I don’t know how to change drum brakes skull headlights works running lights worksturn signals works brake lights work and it is very fun to drive runs drive very smooth not rough like most will trade for other vehicles pre 80s or other kit cars open to all I’m not sure what I want well I do know no boats or motorcycles unless they are unique I like different and unique also no guns send all offers with pics it can be a project but must be running and driving aka road worthy
The more you look, the more bonkers it gets
I’m sure we’ve got at least one VW boffin gracing these pages somewhere, so if you know what you’re looking at here power plant wise (because I obviously have no clue) feel free to chime in with a comment below for the sake of the class.
While I have no idea what engine this is (or what year it would be out of) I can already hear it in my head. Disappointingly there’s nothing in this custom trike ad about a stereo because if it had one I’m sure it’d play nothing but Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf.
In case you’re wondering, it seats 3 but possibly not comfortably. Although if you really want to make your next wedding/bar mitzvah/school formal/homecoming entrance memorable then this custom trike would certainly do the trick. Funerals on the other hand, I’m going to say that’s a hard pass with that idea even if Grandma did love her Honda Gold Wings or the sound of a Dak Dak.
Now after all that madness, if you’re asking the question ‘I love it, how much and how can I make it mine?’ Well the sad news is, someone has already bought it. Yes this South Carolina special custom trike seemed to last all of a single week before someone jumped at the chance to take it home, possibly on the trailer that came with it.
But don’t worry, I’m sure Facebook will cough up something just as mental soon enough and when they do, I’ll put it up here for all to enjoy!
