I get that the prices of materials have reached epic heights this year and you have to improvise. Likewise I love the fact that Facebook could only classify this project as ‘Other Ford.’
But now that this 1983 Other Ford project has been unearthed online and revealed to be for sale…I wondering who would buy it and why? which sawmill is going to snap it up first as a promo car.
I would have killed for something hilarious like this ‘Other Ford’ as a kid.
My grandfather was a hell of a hobby carpenter and built some pretty nifty things for the grand kids in his time including toy swords and shields and one awesome billy kart that tore up the natural sloped and curved driveway at his farm. Sadly he never built anything this majestic because as a mobile cubby house, I don’t think you could create anything cooler.
As an adult though? I’d be worried about parking it near any source of heat let alone drive it hard for more than a few minutes more the chance that the wood turns to smoke and cinders in record time. Not to mention having an accident in this thing would be like crashing about in an old barn.
But aside from that…
Credit where credit is due, I think this is amazing. Practical no, reliable possibly, creative absolutely. And the more I look at it, the more I feel it should be shipped over to here to Australia and parked somewhere in the Carrara markets Gold Coast where they have some additional wooden structures of the like:
But back to this wooden beast/83 other Ford. It looks rugged on the outside but quite comfy on the inside! I mean I don’t know the full length of this wooden wonder but this bench seat does look like you could easily stretch out on it and nap, possibly while playing hide and seek with the kids.
And if you’re wondering what this started out as? Well full details on this build including what wood and how long are lacking but for the basics: 83 Ford F-150 long wheel base. Automatic transmission. Runs and drives. Make your best offer. Has a title. Yes I built this myself.
Which for my fellow Downunder brothers and sisters (and anyone else not from the US) would have started out something like this:
So what else can I tell you about this 83 Ford Other (thanks Facey) other than hit you with some more pictures? Not a bean actually, aside from the fact it’s from Texas and if you’re keen then have a gander around Bivins, TX and have close to 8k on you in bald eagles if you’re keen on driving it (slowly) home.
But if this 83 Ford Other is just too much wood to handle, well there’s some other options we’ve come across..
Back in 2014 we came across this Nissan Cube Woody, complete with vinyl wood panelling ready to go! Although while it has less wood than the Other Ford above, it also appeared as as example of km’s mysteriously disappearing somewhere during the shipping crate ride over from Japan. But still, it ticks the less wood box, so that’s an option.
Recently we also came across the 93 Buick Roadmaster and it’s tribute to the trees. Sadly though you’ll need to finish this one off, but if anything it does mean you can add some more wood if what you see here just isn’t enough.
Or finally there’s this beaut Morris Mini panel van with plenty of the sealed wooden stuff to keep a lumberjack happy. This is ‘Bella’ and Pete was more than happy to talk to us through the process of building it up to where you see it now.
